MADISON, S.D. (DSUAthletics.com) – The North Star Athletic Association has selected Dakota State’s (S.D.) junior Morgan Koepsell as its Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week, the tenth edition of the weekly honor was announced by the conference office Monday. It is the third consecutive week that the Trojan had collected its weekly conference basketball honor.
Koepsell, 6-foot-2 center of Canova, S.D., poured in a career-high 28 points in sparking the Trojans to an 82-76 hard-fought home victory over Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Dec. 30. She tallied 13 points in the first half and added 15 points in the second half. She nearly posted a double-double where she pulled down nine rebounds in the game. She also had a block.
Koepsell was near perfect from the field, making 12 baskets in 13 attempts (92.3 percent). She made all four free throw attempts.
According to the DakStats-NAIA statistical website as of Monday, Koepsell ranks 13th in the nation with 18 blocks. She is three blocks away to join to the DSU Trojan women’s basketball ‘Top 10′ career blocks, where she accumulated 76 career blocks (Sheila Haack with 79 blocks – 10th most career blocks in the record book).
Koepsell averages 10.5 points per game for the Trojans this season. She also averages 5.4 rebounds and 1.4 blocks per game. She is 55.9 percent from the field (57-of-102 field goals).
Morgan is the daughter of Heath and Ronda Koepsell. She is an elementary education major at Dakota State University.
Dakota State (10-3 overall record, 2-0 North Star Athletic Association record, receiving votes in the NAIA Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Top 25 national poll) concludes their three-game home stand at DSU Fieldhouse this weekend. The Trojans resume to NSAA conference play, hosting Valley City State (N.D.) on Friday at 5:30 p.m. and Dickinson State (N.D.) on Saturday at 4 p.m.
