Jurrens announces candidacy for seat on Watertown City Council

WATERTOWN, S.D.–Lynn Jurrens has announced he’s running for an open seat on the Watertown City Council representing Ward E, which is western Watertown and areas around Lake Kampeska.

Jurrens grew up in Toronto, South Dakota and graduated from South Dakota State University with a degree in Agribusiness and a Master’s Degree in Economics.

He and his family moved to Watertown in 1993, where he started his insurance company.

Jurrens describes himself as a, “passionate fisherman and lifelong outdoorsman dedicated to clean water, curtailing flooding and building up healthy fisheries.”

In a statement announcing his candidcacy, Jurrens said, “I love Watertown and Lake Kampeska, I’m excited to represent Ward E and helping to move all of Watertown forward to a bright future.”

The current city councilman in Ward E is Glen Vilhauer, who announced he is not seeking re-election.

Election Day in Watertown is June 20th. The filing deadline for interested candidates is 5 p.m. this Friday.
