Junior Legion keeps season alive with comeback win over Renner

RENNER, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — The Region 1A Junior Legion Tournament began Thursday at Renner.
Watertown would fail to find their groove in game one falling to Aberdeen 10-0. The Smittys put a six-spot on the board in the fourth inning and never looked back. The game was called in the sixth inning. Kolby Lacher, Ryan Roby, and Austin Johnson all had one hit to lead the purple and gold.
Junior Legion kept their season alive by coming back in the seventh inning to defeat Renner 13-11 in the loser out bracket. Watertown would put down 15 hits in the game led by Drew Denzer with three hits Lacher, Johnson, Kaleb Nygaard, and Jesse Werner each would have two hits. Thacher Roth would collect one hit and four RBI’s.
Watertown Post 17 Junior Legion will continue play in Region 1A taking on Aberdeen once again at 1 p.m. Winner of that game will face Brookings in the region championship at 1:30 p.m. The top two teams from the region will move on to the Class A Legion State Tournament July 23-27 at Pierre.
