June weather statistics reflect hot, dry conditions

ABERDEEN, S.D.–June was a hot, dry month in Watertown and across South Dakota.

National Weather Service data shows the average monthly temperature in Watertown last month was 72 degrees–or almost six degrees warmer than normal.

The average daytime high for the month was 86 degrees, which was nine degrees hotter than normal.

Rain gauges were mostly dry in June. Watertown saw just .65 of an inch of rain the entire month, which was 3.2 inches below normal.

It was even worse in Mobridge, where just .38 of rain fell in June, sinking that part of South Dakota deeper into drought conditions.
