January was colder than normal in Watertown

WATERTOWN, S.D.–January is typically the coldest month of the year in South Dakota, and it turns out last month, it was even colder than normal.

The National Weather Service says the monthly average temperature in Watertown in January was 9.4 degrees–or almost three degrees colder than average.

The warmest temperature of the month was 41 degrees on the 18th. The coldest was 17 below zero on the 1st, 2nd, 6th and 25th.

Snowfall in Watertown in January was 8.3 inches, which was about an inch and a half above normal.
