Jackley warns South Dakotans of Medicare scam

February 19, 2024

PIERRE, S.D.–South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley is warning residents of scammers claiming to be from Medicare.

According to Jackley, the scammers call individuals threatening to take away Medicare benefits.

Jackley says it’s not a new scam, but a relentless one.

He says these scammers will do anything they can to convince the person to disclose personal or financial information, including their Medicare numbers.

The Consumer Protection Division offered some tips to avoid these scams, including not providing financial information over the phone, being wary of calls that do not show up on caller ID, and not accepting back, knee or wrist braces that are mailed to them, but were never ordered.

Consumers who believe they may have been a victim of any type of scam should contact the Attorney General’s Office’s Consumer Protection Division at 1-800-300-1986.
