Jackley releases draft ballot explanation on recreational marijuana

August 14, 2023

PIERRE, S.D.–South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley has released a draft ballot explanation for a proposed amendment that would legalize recreational marijuana in South Dakota.

The measure, if passed by voters, would allow people 21 years or older to possess, grow, sell, ingest and distribute marijuana or marijuana paraphernalia. The measure would not affect laws dealing with hemp or the state’s medical marijuana program.

Supporters of the measure need to collect 17,509 signatures to get the question on the 2024 ballot.
