Hundreds of bales destroyed in fire in rural Brookings County

BRUCE, S.D.–Fire departments from Bruce, Volga and Brookings were dispatched to a report of cornstalk bales that were on fire early this morning, two miles southeast of Bruce.
The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office says they arrived to find the bales on fire in a feedlot at 46659 205th Street.
An estimated 900 round bales valued at more than $31,000 were lost in the fire.
The cause of the fire is believed to be from bale combustion.
