RAPID CITY, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) – Watertown ended day one of the Class AA Boys Tennis Meet in seventh place with a score of 171. Sioux Falls Lincoln leads the pack with a 390.
In flight one singles, Mark Mahowald defeated Carter Cameron of Sioux Falls Roosevelt in round one (6-3, 6-3) but fell to Gage Gohl of Sioux Falls Lincoln in the Championship quarterfinals (6-0, 6-0). Mahowald would fall to Gab Goetz of Aberdeen in the fifth-place semifinals (10-3).
Curtis Sneden in flight two defeated Aditya Tummala of Brookings in the opening round (6-1, 6-0) but would fall to Davis Shafter of Sioux Falls Washington (7-5, 6-1) in the championship quarterfinals. Sneden defeated Maverik Ragon of Harrisburg (10-6) in the fifth-place semis and will play for fifth place on Friday.
Evan Meester in flight three defeated Evan Rogers of Sioux Falls Roosevelt in the opening round (6-3, 6-1), downed Eli Woidyla in the championship quarterfinals (6-1, 5-7, 10-4) but would fall to Noah Morgans of Sioux Falls Washington (6-1, 6-0) in the championship semis and will play for third place on Friday.
Flight four would see Justin Remmers down Blake Walter of Sioux Falls Jefferson in round one (6-1, 6-4) but fall to Chase Rima of Sioux Falls Washington in the championship quarterfinals (6-1, 6-4). Remmers would fall to Gibsen Eszlinger of Brandon Valley in the 5th place semis (10-4).
Jadon Linder in flight five had a bye in the first round and defeated Max Phares of Rapid City Stevens in the championship quarterfinals (7-6 (8-6),6-4). Linder would fall to Will Koziara of Sioux Falls O’Gorman (6-1, 6-1) in the championship semis and will play for third place on Friday.
In flight six, Zandar Binde also had a first-round bye and would fall to Tommy Nehring of Rapid City Stevens in the championship quarterfinals (6-1, 3-6, 10-2) Binde defeated Jack Riggs of Aberdeen (10-8) and will play for 5th place on Friday.
The team of Mahowald/Sneden in flight one doubles would win their opening-round matchup against the team of A. Griffin/J. Dahl of Rapid City Central (6-1, 6-1) but would fall to the Sioux Falls O’Gorman team of C. Poppenga/D. Shafter (6-2, 6-2) in the championship quarterfinals. Mahowald/Sneden will play in the 5th place semis on Friday.
Flight two doubles team of Meester/Remmers would follow a similar path, winning their opening round contest over B. Peters/C. Kreie of Brookings but fall to the Sioux Falls O’Gorman team of C. Johnson/Koziara (6-1, 6-0) in the championship quarterfinals. Meester/Remmers will play in the 5th place semis on Friday.
Flight three team of Linder/Binde had a first-round bye. They would fall to the team of Eszlinger/H/ Wright of Brandon Valley in the championship quarterfinals and will play in the first place semis on Friday.
