HS TRACK: Area athletes take home titles at state track

BLACK HILLS, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — The 2021 South Dakota High School State Track and Field meets were held in Sturgis, Spearfish and Rapid City this past weekend.
The AA Girls title would be split between Brandon Valley and Sioux Falls O’Gorman, each with 124 points. Watertown would come in 13th with a score of 33. Maggie Heesch would take home a state title in the girls discus (138-08).
The Boys AA title would outright go to Sioux Falls Lincoln with a 93. The Arrows would place sixth with 54. Cooper Mack would take home state titles in the discus (179-05) and shot put (66-06.75)
West Central would take home the Class A girls team title with a score of 82. Hamlin would place sixth with a 40, Milbank 10th with a 26. Milbank’s Greta Snaza would take home the state title in the pole vault (10-03). Gracelyn Leiseth from Hamlin would take individual titles in the discus throw (149-03) and shot put (45-05).
The A Boys team title would go to Sioux Falls Christian with a score of 133.66. Milbank would come in second with 66. Bennett Schwenn would take home a state championship in the triple jump (46-03.5) and long jump (22-06). The team of Dustin Gertsema, Sawyer Gauer, Kaden Krause, Nick Batchelor would run to a state title in the 1600 sprint medley (3:39.72).
At the B Girls, Colman-Egan would take first place with a team score of 116. Hanson would claim the Boys B team title with a 79. Castlewood would come in eighth with a 30. Carson Kirwan would take home the boys high jump championship for the Warriors (6-04). Langford’s Zander Widener would take home state titles in the 110 (14.61) and 300 (39.90) meter hurdles.
