HS TENNIS: Arrows send three singles and two doubles on to day two of state tennis

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — Watertown will send three singles and two doubles on to day two of the 2021 Class AA Boys State Tennis Tournament.

Flight one singles, Mark Mahowald fell to Dawn Johnson of Brandon Valley (6-1, 5-7, 10-6) in round one and ended his year to Aberdeen’s Gabe Goetz (10-3) in the consolation quarterfinals.

Zandar Binde fell to Sioux Falls Roosevelt’s Anthony Erickson in flight two, round one (6-3, 6-1) and to Dawson Peter of Brookings in the consolation quarterfinals to end his season.
Jacob Meester defeated Brookings’ Derek Brallier in round one fight three (6-3, 6-1), fell to Cayton Poppenga of Sioux Falls Washington in the championship quarterfinals (6-1, 6-1), defeated Charlie Grismer of Sioux Falls Roosevelt in the consolation quarterfinals (10-2).

Adam Kays fell to Garrett Everson of Sioux Falls Roosevelt in flight four, round one (7-5, 7-5) and was defeated by Ayden Murray of Brandon Valley in the consolation quarterfinals (10-7) to end his season.

Curtis Sneeden downed St. Thomas More’s Dhruv Goyal in flight five round one (6-0, 6-0), fell to Brandon Valley’s Tayven Badger in the quarterfinals (3-6, 6-4, 10-8), defeated Brock Kruger of Sioux Falls Roosevelt in the consolation quarterfinals (10-3).

Even Meester defeated Rapid City Central’s Thane Neiman (6-1, 6-0) in the opening round, fell to Harold Mayer of Sioux Falls Washington (6-4, 6-0) in the quarterfinals, defeated St. Thomas Moore’s Shrouya Goyal in the consolation quarterfinals.

Flight one doubles would see Mark and Sam Mahowald fall to Brookings (6-1, 6-3) and fall in the consolation quarterfinals to end their season (10-3).

Flight two doubles Jacob Meester and Adam Kays defeat Rapid City Central in the opening round, fall to Sioux Falls Washington in the second round and will face the team from Harrisburg in the consolation semifinals on Friday.

Flight three doubles Evan Meester and Curtis Sneden would open round one with a victory over the St. Thomas More team (6-0, 6-0) and would fall to the Sioux Falls O’Gorman (6-3, 6-1) team in the championship quarterfinals. They will face the team from Brandon Valley in the consolation semis on Friday.

The Class AA Boys State Tennis Tournament concludes today in Sioux Falls.
