WATERTOWN, S.D.–All signs point toward construction on a new multi-purpose ice arena in Watertown getting started later this year.

The city has signed off on a memorandum of understanding with a developer to build the two-sheet arena on Watertown’s east side.

Councilman Ried Holien chairs the Ice Arena Committee, and talked with KWAT News about the location for this project……

He explains why this is a good location to build on…

He says the $14 million arena will generate some valuable spin-off development…

Holien says the arena will primarily be used for hockey and figure skating, but it will be multi-purpose, and capable of hosting other events too….

Holien says the framework of a naming rights agreement worth several million dollars is in place, but it has not been publicly announced yet.

The plan is for the arena to be completed by late 2022.
