WATERTOWN, S.D.–The Watertown City Council was set to vote last night on a letter of intent with the North American Hockey League that would have been the first step in bringing a junior hockey team to town, but the item was struck from the meeting agenda before it could be discussed.

Mayor Ried Holien explains why…

One potential sticking point is scheduling. Holien tells KWAT News the NAHL wants its Watertown team to play the majority of its home games on Friday or Saturday nights, but the Watertown Lakers would like weekend dates too….

Holien says the city might invite NAHL President Mark Frankenfeld to Watertown so he can personally answer any questions or concerns that city officials have before a vote on the letter of intent is taken.
