Highway 212 road construction project in Watertown now finished! (Audio)

WATERTOWN, S.D.–Here’s cause for celebration. The massive U.S. Highway 212 construction project through Watertown is finished.
South Dakota DOT Engineer Bryce Olson says the finishing touches are being done this week with some crosswalk pavement markings and clean up work.
This project was done in two phases. The first phase was from U.S. Highway 81 to South Dakota Highway 20.
The second phase, which was wrapped up this spring, ran between Highway 81 and 19th Street East.

What were the main challenges they faced???
U.S. Highway 212 was completely rebuilt with a 9 1/2 inch concrete pad. Olson says the life expectancy of the new highway is decades long…
The scheduled completion date of the project was last October 28th.
Contractors failed to meet that deadline, and resumed work on May 1st.
