BROOKINGS, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — A groundbreaking ceremony for a new wrestling practice facility at South Dakota State University is scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 9.

The program is set for 2 p.m. at the construction site, which is located on the southwest corner of the Sanford-Jackrabbit Athletic Complex and directly north of Dana J. Dykhouse Stadium.

Construction on the Frank J. Kurtenbach Family Wrestling Center is set to begin this fall, with completion scheduled for 2022. The project was authorized by the South Dakota Board of Regents last December and received final approval from the South Dakota Legislature this past spring.

Former SDSU wrestler and coach Frank Kurtenbach provided the lead gift for the state-of-the art facility, which will feature four competition mats, plus a strength and conditioning area, locker rooms, team room, coaches’ offices and spaces for academics and nutrition.
