WATERTOWN, S.D.–The Watertown City Council and Codington County Commission passed resolutions this week asking Governor Kristi Noem to pursue a disaster declaration that would allow them to recover costs associated with fighting spring flooding.
The governor told KWAT News those talks actually began a few weeks ago….
Lake Kampeska and the Big Sioux River in Watertown crested earlier this week, but Lake Pelican was still rising.
Any disaster declaration would have to come from President Biden, and would be administered through FEMA, the Federal Emergency Management Agency.
