GOLF: Olson AA gold medalist; TZ’s Barse tied for 13th in the A

HURON, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — Watertown sophomore Jake Olson shot a two-under-par, two-day score of 142 to take home the gold medal at the 2021 Class AA Boys State Golf Meet held at Broadland Creek Country Club in Huron.
Watertown will graduate no seniors from this young squad made up of mostly freshman and sophomores. The lone junior, Mark Mahowald shot a 164 (T39). Freshman Kaden Rylance finished just outside the top ten in 11th place, carding a 154, freshman Ty Lenards tied for 21st with a 159, freshman Jaden Solheim 172 (T52), and freshman Curtis Sneden a 178 (T63).
As a team, Watertown placed third with a 619. Sioux Falls Lincoln and Sioux Falls O’Gorman tied for the team title, each with a 604.
Tea Area carded a two-round total of 669 to grab the Class A Boys Golf Title held at Madison Creek Country Club. Aberdeen Roncalli finished in fourth with a 687, and Sioux Valley seventh at 740.
Sioux Falls Christian’s Kaleb Jost was the Class A gold medalist heading into the clubhouse with a two-day total of 155. Aberdeen Roncalli’s Mason Carrels was two strokes back in second at 157. Caleb Barse of Ziospa Zina tied for 13th with a 167, Riley Steen of Sisseton carded a 177, Jonathan DeBoer of Milbank shot a 182.
