WATERTOWN, S.D.–A teenager was seriously injured Monday afternoon in a two vehicle crash at an intersection four miles southeast of Watertown.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol says it happened at 176th Street and 458th Avenue when a car and an SUV collided.

Both vehicles careened off the road and ended up in the ditch.

The car sustained significant damage to the driver’s side door area, and the drive had to be extricated from the wreckage with the “Jaws of Life” hydraulic tool.

The car was driven by 15 year-old Emma Bredvik of Watertown. She was taken to Prairie Lakes Hospital.

The SUV was driven by a 29 year-old woman whose name was not released. She sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.

The Highway Patrol says a charge against Bredvik is pending, and that both drivers were wearing their seat belts.
