HURON, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — The 2021 Girls State Basketball Tournaments begin today across South Dakota

In the B from Huron, the one seed Castlewood is back in the tournament after their run last year was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Castlewood Coach Leslie Tvedt says last season left a whole in the hearts of a lot of girls:

The Warriors open tournament play at noon against a familiar foe, the eight seed Waverly-South Shore. Castlewood took the first meeting on February 12th, 73-64. Coach Tvedt tells us what her girls need to do to earn the victory:

Waverly-South Shore was in the tournament two years ago taking home eighth place. Coyote Coach Taylor Rymerson looks to his defense to take away the Warriors second chance baskets:

Brent Nathaniel will have coverage of Castlewood and Waverly-South Shore from the Girls State B on 104.3 KKSD.

Other games from the B today at the Huron Arena include the four seed Hanson taking on the five seed Ethan at 2 p.m., two-seeded White River facing the seven seed Viborg-Hurley at 5 p.m. and the three seed Corsica-Stickney taking on the six seed Herreid/Selby Area at 7 p.m.

From the A in Watertown, the three seed Hamlin will take on the six seed Belle Fourche in the final matchup of the day at 7 p.m. Much like Castlewood, Hamlin’s 2020 season ended early due to the COVID-19 pandemic: Charger Coach Tim Koisti says that gave his girls a chip on their shoulder this year:
