HURON, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — Eighteen Waverly-South Shore turnovers and a 7-0 third-quarter run by Castlewood would send the one seed Warriors past the eight seed Coyotes 61-55 in the opening game of the Girls State B State Tournament from the Huron Arena.
As heard on 104.3 KKSD, senior Alayna Benike’s 24 points would lead the Warriors. Benike would go seven of 18 from the field, four of eight from three-point land, six of six from the line, grab seven boards, and steal the ball six times. Mackenzie Everson would notch 17 points on six of 11 shooting from the field, three of five from beyond the arc, and two of four from the line. Maddie Horn would end the night with 11 points, Lyndsey Archer added six, and Darah DeKam had three. Benike, Horn, Everson, DeKam, and Everson would play all 32 minutes of the game.
Emily Kranz double-double would lead the Coyotes, 19 points and ten boards. Lydia Schroeder would add 17 points on six of 14 shooting from the field and four of seven from three-point land. Breanna Breske added 10 and Brooklyn Kranz had six.
