WATERTOWN, S.D.–Nancy Turbak Berry announced her candidacy for a seat on the Watertown School Board today.

In a news release, Turbak Berry says students and teachers are her two main concerns. “First students, their physical safety, mental well-being and the opportunity to learn. Second, teachers, their safety, their support from the community, and the opportunity to teach. While I will be fascinated to work with the school as it develops and implements long range visions, time and again students and teachers are my two main concerns.”

Tubak Berry served in the South Dakota Senate from 2006 to 2010. She’s an attorney at the Turbak Law Office with her sons, Seamus Culhane and Liam Culhane.

The filing deadline for Watertown School Board candidates is May 13th. There are two open seats on the board, and three candidates who’ve filed petitions to run.

Incumbent board members Stuart Stein and Jean Moulton are both running for re-election.

The Watertown School Board election is Tuesday, June 21st.
