Flames from car fire get dangerously close to Watertown apartment building

WATERTOWN, S.D.–What turned out to be a vehicle fire in Watertown on Thursday could have been worse.
Fire Rescue was called to the 612 Flats Apartments on Highway 81 over the noon hour, where they found a car with fire coming from the engine compartment.
The car was within ten feet of the apartment building, but crews were able to extinguish the fire before the flames got to the structure.
Apartment units were checked for smoke and hot spots, but none of the residents reported any smoke in their apartments.
