Fire in Watertown destroys camper, damages garages

WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown Fire Rescue was called out to a camper fire over the noon hour Monday.

The fire at 216 2nd Street Southwest was called in at 12:40 p.m.

Fire crews arrived to find a fifth wheel camper burning in the alley. There were also two nearby garages and a carport in close proximity to the fire.

Firefighters worked to protect those structures, but were unable to save the camper, which is a total loss.

One garage had moderate smoke damage and extensive damage to an exterior wall.

The second garage and the carport sustained mild to moderate damage.

Fire crews were on the scene for two hours.

There’s no word on the cause of the fire.
