Final flight for United Airlines out of Watertown

WATERTOWN, S.D.–It’s the end of the line for United Airlines in Watertown.

They’ll fly out for the final time from Watertown Regional Airport today.

The airline learned last spring that they were not awarded the federal government’s Essential Air Service (EAS) ontract to serve Watertown.

That’s important for an airline because it comes with federal subsidies that helps them cover the cost of providing service to smaller, rural airports.

The Department of Transportation awarded the EAS contract to Denver Air Connection, which will continue to provide non-stop jet service to Chicago and Denver, as they have in the past.
