VERMILLION, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — South Dakota women’s basketball earned their first-ever trip to the Sweet 16 with a 61-47 win over Baylor Sunday night.
Sunday night’s win marked the second upset for the number ten seeded Coyotes in the NCAA Women’s Tournament. USD defeated Ole Miss on Friday 75-61 to earn the program’s first NCAA Tournament win in four tries.
The Coyotes’ top-10 defense was a factor in both contests. Super senior Liv Korngable talks about what has made the USD defense so successful:
South Dakota coach Dawn Plitzuweit called their performance on Sunday “fearless.” Korngable says that fearlessness comes from their coaching staff:
The Coyotes will face Michigan in the NCAA Women’s Sweet 16 on Saturday in Wichita, Kansas at 5:30 p.m.
