Explosion and fire damages west central Minnesota grain elevator

HOFFMAN, Minn. (KFGO) – Several crews responded to a fire at the Hoffman grain elevator late Friday night.

According to the Grant County, Minnesota Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 7:50 p.m., they received multiple 911 calls reporting an explosion and fire at the grain elevator.

According to a Grant County social media post shortly after 9:15 p.m., the elevator was on fire and officials were asking the public to stay away from the scene. Around 10:30 p.m., a second post reported the fire was contained and crews were maintaining the scene and cleaning up the area.

The Sheriff’s Office said the cause of the explosion and fire is unknown and the incident remains under investigation.

There are no reports of injuries. The extent of damage to the elevator has not been released.

Fire Departments from Hoffman, Barrett, Elbow Lake, Herman, Alexandria, Morris, Donnelly, Chokio, Cyrus and Kensington responded. Ambulance services from Lake Region and Hoffman were also on scene.

The State Fire Marshal was also contacted.

Hoffman is about 20 miles west of Alexandria.
