Early morning fire destroys Minnesota’s oldest resort

LUTSEN, Minn.–A devastating fire broke out early today at the historic Lutsen Resort, Minnesota’s oldest resort, located near Lake Superior’s North Shore.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a fire alarm at the resort around 12:24 a.m.

Staff from Lutsen Resort reported smoke coming from the floor in the lobby. The flames quickly grew to engulf the lodge, which is a total loss.

No guests were on-site and no injuries were reported.

The fire is under investigation by the state fire marshal.
