PIERRE, S.D.–Ballot counting will wrap up in South Dakota today, but enough ballots were counted Tuesday to show Donald Trump the clear winner in the presidential race.
With ballots in just under 90-percent of the state’s precincts having been counted, Trump and his running mate, J.D. Vance, picked up 65-percent of the vote in South Dakota compared to 33-percent for Democrat challenger Kamala Harris and running mate Tim Walz.
It was a “Johnson and Johnson” race for South Dakota’s only seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, and incumbent Congressman Dusty Johnson was an easy winner. He defeated Democrat Sheryl Johnson by a 73-percent to 27-percent margin.
Incumbent Republican Kristie Fiegen has won another six-year term on the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission. She was the top finisher among three candidates, getting 69-percent of the vote.
