DSU sets new football schedule for COVID-19 shortened season

MADISON, S.D. – The North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) announced its 9-game conference football schedule for the 2020 season. The NAIA Council of Presidents (COP) announced the changes to the 2020 fall sports season on June 4, due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

All sports can begin their first team practices on Aug. 15.

The original 7-game North Star football schedule will stay intact while adding 2 additional games within the conference membership, beginning on the first allowable date to play on Sept. 12.

Currently, the NAIA intends to host all fall national championship events as currently scheduled.

Dakota State football’s 2020 non-conference games at Dakota Wesleyan (S.D.) on Aug. 27, versus Briar Cliff (Iowa) on Sept. 3 and at Wisconsin-La Crosse had been canceled due to COVID-19 pandemic.

All nine games will be counted as North Star Athletic Association conference contests in 2020.

The Trojans will open at home on Sept. 12 against 5-time league defending champion Dickinson State (N.D.). This game will designate as the 5th annual ‘Ag Bowl’ game.

Dakota State travels to Presentation (S.D.) on Sept. 19 before heading into the original 7-game NSAA conference schedule.

The Trojans visit Mayville State on Sept. 26 and return home on Oct. 3 for the homecoming game versus Waldorf (Iowa). DSU heads to Dickinson State on Oct. 10.

Dakota State will have their three-game home stand, starting on Oct. 17 versus Presentation followed by a contest versus Valley City State (N.D.) on Oct. 24. The Trojans play their final home contest versus Mayville State (N.D.).

DSU travels to Waldorf for the final regular-season contest on Nov. 7. The NAIA Football Championships Series playoffs begins on Nov. 21.
