WHEATON, Minn.–Two Wheaton, Minnesota men are thankful to be alive after the pickup they were in sank in Lake Traverse in western Minnesota after it crossed over an ice heave.
Traverse County Sheriff Trevor Wright says it happened about 15 miles west of Wheaton.
The sheriff says another angler from Dumont, Minnesota was near where the incident happened….
Wright says the two men, 55 year-old Pete Katalinas and 72 year-old Lloyd Nelson are okay.
One of them told the sheriff he was near exhaustion and would not have survived much longer. The ice kept breaking away as they were trying to pull themselves out of the water.
Two dogs drowned when the pickup went down.
