Deutsch’s bill on legislative redistricting clears House State Affairs Committee (Audio)

PIERRE, S.D.–A bill that would require legislative redistricting to be handled by a joint committee of house and senate lawmakers easily cleared House State Affairs this morning.
Each chamber produced their own map last year, nearly leading to a deadlock.
House Bill 1007 is the work of District Four Representative Fred Deutsch (pictured) of Florence. He says last year’s process did not go well…
Deutsch says he wants this to be the legislature’s bill and he welcomes input…
The bill passed 11-1 and now moves to the House floor.
