Deutsch bill on medical cannabis approved by House committee  (Audio)

PIERRE, S.D.–This morning, a South Dakota House committee passed a bill preventing doctors from certifying pregnant and breastfeeding women for a medical marijuana card.

House Bill 1053 passed the House Health and Human Services Committee on a party-line 11 to 2 vote.

Dr. Benjamin Aaker is an emergency room doctor from Brandon, and a supporter of the bill.

Bill opponent, Democratic Rep. Erin Healy from Sioux Falls.

The bill now goes to the House for consideration.

Bill sponsor, Republican Fred Deutsch of Florence (pictured) , says South Dakota would be the first state to adopt such a law should it pass.
