CLEAR LAKE, S.D.–A Deuel County Sheriff’s Department squad car sustained minor damage Tuesday night while it was at the scene of an accident on Interstate 29.

Tony Mangan with the South Dakota Department of Public Safety says it happened at mile marker 150, 18 miles north of Brookings.

The squad car was parked in the driving lane of the southbound lane with its emergency lights activated.

The deputy was there to investigate a two-vehicle, non –injury crash.

An approaching vehicle driven by 75 year-old Beverly Sanford of Sioux Falls came up on the crash scene, swerved into the passing lane, and struck the squad car resulting in minor damage.

The deputy was not in the squad car when it was hit.

There were no injuries.

Charges against Sanford are pending for failing to move over.
