Details released on April 1st mass vaccination event in Watertown

WATERTOWN, S.D. – Next week’s mass vaccination event will be Thursday, April 1st at the Codington County Extension Complex. An appointment is required to receive a vaccine. Registration will open on Friday, March 26 at 10:00 a.m. at www.prairielakes.com/covidvaccine.

Residents who do not have access to the internet and need assistance signing up may call the Watertown Library 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. on Friday, March 26th. Press 4 for scheduling assistance when you call 605-882-6220.

The COVID vaccine allocated by the Department of Health for April 1st is 800 doses of Moderna. Everyone who signs up for the April 1st event will automatically be signed up to receive their second dose on Thursday, April 29th.

South Dakota adults ages 18 and older who are in groups 1A – 1E may schedule a vaccine appointment. Group 1E members are “Critical Infrastructure Workers”. Areas include water and wastewater, energy, finance, food service, food and agriculture, legal, manufacturing, shelter and housing, transportation and logistics, information technology, and communications.

Good to Know:

– An appointment is required to receive a vaccine.

– Paperwork is included in the event information, please read it before you register.

– Print and complete paperwork beforehand, if able.

– If you need a ride, Lyft and the Watertown Community Transit both offer rides to the vaccine appointment for free. The transit needs one day’s notice.

– More Event Information:

o Enter through the south door “H”, use 21st street SW for access to the parking lot.

o Masks are required at the event.

o People receiving the vaccine will need to wait for 15 minutes after their vaccine before they can leave the facility.

o Glacial Lakes MultiCultural Center will have Spanish-speaking interpreter available on April 1, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Future Mass Vaccination Events:

The current plan by the Watertown Area COVID-19 Community Task Force is to hold mass vaccination events every week as allocated vaccine doses allow. Media and community members can anticipate an announcement will be made each Wednesday with information for the following week, including how and when to register. Each event is planned for the Codington County Extension Complex.
