WATERTOWN, S.D.–By next fall, the number of elementary schools in Watertown will be reduced by one.

On Monday night, the school board approved a resolution to close Roosevelt Elementary at the end of the current school year.

Superintendent Dr. Jeff Danielsen (pictured) says a couple of factors drove the decision. One was declining enrollment at the elementary school level.

The other was the cost it would take to update Roosevelt going forward….

When next fall rolls around, Roosevelt Elementary will be sitting empty, and at least in the short term, Danielsen says it’ll probably stay that way….

Danielsen says over the next several months, the school board will discuss where Roosevelt students will be attending classes next fall.
