Dakota State sweeps NSAA weekly track and field awards

MADISON, S.D. (DSUAthletics.com) – Dakota State (S.D.) swept the first edition of the North Star Athletic Association (NSAA) men’s & women’s indoor track & field weekly awards, announced by the conference office Tuesday. The Trojan men competed in the Doane (Neb.) Ward Haylett Invitational on Jan. 9 in Crete, Neb.
Tyler Moulton was named to the field Athlete-of-the-Week. He finished fourth in the shot put, throwing 14.33 meters (47 feet, .25 inches). His shot put is currently the 10th best throw in the NAIA. Moulton added a seventh-place finish in the weight throw with a measurement of 14.98 meters (49 feet, 1.75 inches).
Tyler is the son of Carl Robert and Heather Moulton of Ridgecrest, Calif. He is a senior exercise science major at Dakota State University.
Alex Derr captured the 800-meter run title with the NAIA provisional time of 1 minute, 56.09 seconds. His time is currently the second-best time in the NAIA. Derr also anchored the Trojan men’s 4 x 400-meter relay team (Riley Greenhoff, Joseph Larson and Trey Reindl) with finished second with a time of 3 minutes, 30.22 seconds.
Alex is the son of Joe and Kathy Derr of Sioux Falls, S.D. He is a senior computer science/math major at Dakota State University.
The Trojan women competed in the Doane (Neb.) Ward Haylett Invitational in Crete, Neb. on Jan. 9.
Matucha was selected to the conference’s indoor field Athlete-of-the-Week after placing second in the high jump. She cleared a height measurement of 1.56 meters (5 feet, 1.25 inches), which set her collegiate personal best mark. Her mark is currently tied for 11th-best in the NAIA.
Lahna is the daughter of Loris and Nikki Matucha of Burke, S.D. She is a sophomore respiratory care major at Dakota State University.
Christiansen was named to the NSAA indoor track Athlete-of-the-Week. She won the 3000-meter run with a personal record time of 11 minutes, 22.69 seconds. Her time is currently 16th-best in the NAIA.
Jacia is the daughter of Rob and Anne Christiansen of Viborg, S.D. She is a senior professional accountancy major at Dakota State University.
Dakota State heads to Yankton, S.D. on Friday for the Mount Marty (S.D.) Opener. The meet will be held at Ruth Donohoe First Dakota Fieldhouse, the site of this year’s NAIA Indoor Track & Field National Championships.
