KANSAS CITY, Mo. – South Dakota State carried its winning ways into its Summit League-opening doubleheader Saturday, sweeping a twinbill against Kansas City by scores of 6-1 and 4-3 at the Urban Youth Academy.
Emma Osmundson, who went 3-for-4, added a run-scoring double in the fourth as she finished the game a home run shy of the cycle in game one. Allison Beaudry capped the scoring with a solo home run to lead off the Jackrabbit seventh.
Jackrabbit starter Tori Kniesche pitched the first four innings and was credited with her team-leading eighth win of the season in game two. She struck out four, but worked around nine walks and a pair of hits.
On Sunday, South Dakota State received offensive production up and down its lineup and Jackrabbit pitchers Grace Glanzer and Tori Kniesche each turned in complete-game performances en route to a sweep of a Summit League softball doubleheader from Kansas City by scores of 6-2 and 7-2.
Glanzer notched her second win of the series. The Sioux Falls native struck out three in game one, walked one and scattered six hits in running her record to 8-2.
Tori Kniesche improved to 9-1 on the season in going the distance in the circle. The freshman right-hander struck out six and did not walk a batter in game two.
In earning a sweep of the four-game weekend series, SDSU improved to 19-4 overall and 4-0 in league play.
The Jackrabbits continue Summit League action with a pair of doubleheaders Friday and Saturday (April 2-3) at Western Illinois. Friday’s twinbill is set for a noon start in Macomb, Illinois.
