Costly start to corn planting season for farmer near Bruce

BRUCE, S.D.–It was a costly start to the spring planting season for a farmer near Bruce.
The Brookings County Sheriff’s Department reports deputies from their office along with firefighters from the Bruce Fire Department were called to 46659 205th Street in rural Bruce Friday at 7:35 p.m. on a report of a tractor fire.
Assistant Sheriff Scott Sebring says the owner of the tractor was planting corn when a fire started under the engine compartment of the tractor.
The Case I-H 315 Magnum tractor, the Case 1250 24 row planter, 100 units of seed and 120 gallons of diesel fuel were lost in the fire.
The value of those items are estimated to be $328,240.00
The fire is under investigation with the Brookings County Sheriff’s Department.
