WATERTOWN, S.D.—Construction on Watertown’s new airport terminal could get started as early as October first.

Airport Manager Todd Syhre says sealed bids will be opened August 20th. They’ll be reviewed by the Airport Board on August 31st, with a construction bid awarded by the city council at their September 8th meeting.

He says there’s been a good level of interest among contractors on this project….

Syhre says they’d prefer to see a local contractor get the work, but there’s no guarantee that’ll happen…

It’s an estimated $21 million project…

The new terminal will be located just northeast of the existing one.

A completion date is estimated to be late 2021 or early 2022.

Skywest Airlines, operating as United Express, serves the Watertown Regional Airport with non-stop jet service to Denver and Chicago.
