Construction worker injured in 30 foot fall into Big Sioux River in Watertown

WATERTOWN, S.D.—A construction worker had to be rescued in Watertown Saturday afternoon after falling some 30 feet into the Big Sioux River bed.
It happened just after 12:30 at the scene of the U.S. Highway 212 construction project over the Big Sioux River.
Watertown Fire Rescue crews set up a rescue rope system, and placed the victim in what’s known as a Stokes basket and raised him out of the coffer dam.
The construction worker, whose name was not released, was taken to Prairie Lakes Hospital for treatment.
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) will likely be investigating the workplace accident.
