WATERTOWN, S.D.—Jim Sutton retired as Codington County’s Emergency Management Director at the end of 2019, but his expertise will be on board this spring in the event of flooding.

Jamie Torstenson took over as the new emergency manager on January 1st.

Today, the Codington County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a motion to hire Sutton as a temporary consultant on an “as needed” basis.

Commission Chairwoman Brenda Hanten….

Sutton says he’s willing to help however, or wherever he can…

The hourly compensation rate for Sutton will be determined later. Any salary he’s owed as a consultant would come out of the commission’s contingency fund since it is not a budgeted expense.
