Codington County tornado sirens will sound April 27th as part of Severe Weather Awareness Week

April 19, 2022

WATERTOWN, S.D.–April 25-29 is Severe Weather Preparedness Week in South Dakota.

Codington County Emergency Management Director Andrew Delgado says the National Weather Service (NWS) encourages communities to practice their tornado drills on April 27th as their theme for that day is, “Tornado Safety.”

The NWS will NOT be activating the Emergency Alert System.

But on Wednesday, April 27 at 10:00 a.m., Delgado says Codington County Emergency Management WILL activate the weather sirens to simulate a TORNADO DRILL.

Not only is this an opportunity for the communities to ensure each siren is properly functioning, but it offers families, schools, and businesses a chance to rehearse or discuss plans, as necessary.
