Codington County Sheriff’s Office applying for grant for school resource officers

WATERTOWN, S.D.–The Codington County Commission this week gave approval for the sheriff’s office to apply for a $125,000 federal COPS grant.
If the grant is awarded, the sheriff’s office will use the money to fund a school resource officer position.
The officer would rotate between schools in Henry, Florence and Waverly.
The grant dollars would fund the new position for three years, after which the county would be responsible for the funding.
Chief Deputy Brent Solum says the county should find out within a couple of months if its grant application was successful.
