Charges pending against man who crashed into train near Tulare

TULARE, S.D.– More details are being released on a Wednesday crash between a train and semi happened just south of Tulare.

According to the Department of Public Safety, a 22-year-old man escaped with minor injuries after being ejected from his semi when it was struck by an oncoming train.

The driver of a 2007 Peterbilt semi was traveling west on 183rd Street near Tulare when he failed to stop at a railroad crossing and was struck by a northbound locomotive on the passenger side of the truck cab.

The cab separated and was pushed 100 yards along the tracks.

Both the semi and locomotive sustained extensive damage.

The driver of the semi was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the cab. He was treated and released at a nearby hospital for his injuries.

Charges are pending against the driver of the semi.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.
