Cattle truck rolls in Brookings County; ten animals killed

BRUCE, S.D.–A semi hauling cattle rolled in Brookings County Tuesday afternoon.
The Brookings County Sheriff’s Office says it happened near Bruce. A semi driven by Tommy Hernandez of Estelline was on a gravel road when he attempted to move to the side of the road to allow another motorist to pass.
The passenger side wheels of the semi caught the edge of the ditch, causing the the truck to leave the road and roll onto its side.
There were 54 head of cattle in the trailer. Ten were killed in the rollover.
Damage from the accident is estimated at $170,000.
