Castlewood tornado rated an EF-2 twister with winds of 120 miles per hour  (Audio)

ABERDEEN, S.D.–A preliminary evaluation from the National Weather Service says a rare and particularly dangerous storm system moved through the Northern Plains during the late afternoon and early evening hours last Thursday.

Kelly Serr is the Warning Coordination Meteorologist for the National Weather Service Office in Aberdeen.

Seven tornadoes have been confirmed so far. The National Weather Service says two of the twisters, one in Castlewood and another south of Gary, were both rated EF-2 tornadoes on the Enhanced Fujita scale.

The Castlewood tornado had wind speeds estimated at 120 miles per hour, while the Gary area tornado packed winds of up to 135 miles per hour.
