Caron says rise in Codington County COVID-19 cases is what they expected (Audio)

WATERTOWN, S.D.—The South Dakota Department of Health reported Monday that the number of positive cases of coronavirus in the state has reached triple digits.

One-hundred-one cases are now confirmed. That’s nearly double the number from Friday, when there were 58.

Codington County’s positive cases are inching up too. They reached five today. On Friday, there was just one.

Mayor Sarah Caron says an increase is what they’ve been expecting…

Those proactive steps include an emergency ordinance closing some non-essential businesses in the city.

The mayor feels the steps they’ve taken so far are working in slowing the spread of the virus. There won’t be any additional restrictions taken now, but that could change…

As of Monday, Codington County had five cases of COVID-19. Brookings, Clark, Hamlin, Marshall and Roberts counties had one case each.
