WATERTOWN, S.D.–Watertown Mayor Sarah Caron was asked to explain at Monday night’s city council meeting why she used her authority to essentially fire Watertown Municipal Utilities Board President Greg Solum from that position recently.
The topic was scheduled to be a consent agenda item, which would mean no discussion on it. But Councilman Don Roby requested it be moved to the regular agenda, which it was.
Roby wanted to know why the mayor removed Solum from the board, and replaced him with Rich Thomas…
Mayor Caron explained that Solum did not allow her to speak on the subject of stormwater user fees at a Utilities Board Meeting in January. She hasn’t forgotten that, so she removed him from the board…
Solum’s five year term on the board was due to expire in July.
He could have served another term, but the mayor is replacing him with Thomas, whose appointment was unanimously approved by the council.
