Bulldogs B title defense will wait another year

WATERTOWN, S.D. (GoWatertown.net) — De Smet were the defending champions heading into the 2020 Girls State B Basketball Tournament. The Bulldogs had amassed a 16-4 regular season record, defeated James Valley Christian, Estelline/Hendricks and White River in the playoffs. Doug Osthus’ squad was seeded number six and upset the three seed Faulkton 50-45 on day one of the tournament. The tournament was postponed the next day due to the COVID19 pandemic.

The South Dakota High School Activities Association brought forth proposals at their March meetings to restart the Girls B tournament in June. Coach Osthus says his girls were still optimistic about defending their title:

The SDHSAA officially cancelled the Girls State B Tournament April 6th due to the coronavirus pandemic, ending the Bulldogs season with a record of 20-4.

De Smet will graduate four seniors, Emily Martens, Michelle Weise, Reyna Beck and Autumn Wilkinson.  Coach Osthus talks about his seniors:
