WATERTOWN, S.D.–A Watertown School District employee hopes to win election to the city council this summer.
Jason Buechler has been a guidance counselor at the Watertown Middle School for the past 20 years.
Buechler grew up in Aberdeen and graduated from Northern State University with a degree in Sociology. He later went on to obtain a Masters Degree in Educational Counseling.
He and his wife live in the Derby Downs area of Ward E.
Buechler says he became interested in city government in 2019, when Watertown began the coversation of transitioning to a city manager-led form of government.
Buechler says, “the next council will look to protect water quality and flooding at our lakes, continue dedicating adequate funds for road improvements, vet a location for a new east fire station, all while maintaining financial responsibility. I’m ready to listen, and represent Ward E, on the Watertown City Council.”
Buechler and Lynn Jurrens are the two candidates who’ve filed to run in Ward E.
The filing deadline for candidates is 5 p.m. today.
